Williams claims Bible ‘misread’

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams has come under fire after claiming Anglicans who oppose homosexual practice in the Church have misread the Bible.  Williams claimed the ‘conservative’ case against homosexual practice, based on Romans 1:24-27, has failed to acknowledge that Paul is primarily critical of the judgmental attitude of Christians. The Rev Dr Robert Gagnon from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary said Williams’ conclusion from the passage that ‘conservatives’ who oppose homosexual practice should “back off in judging those who engage in homosexual behavior” was incorrect. “He is not merely suggesting that in the very process of judging – which the church certainly should do in cases where believers are engaged in unrepentant idolatry and sexual immorality – we should be careful not to be self-righteous. There is a difference.”

Bible publishers murdered

Three people were murdered at a Christian publishing house in Malatya, Turkey on April 18. Five suspects were detained at the scene, carrying a letter stating: “They are trying to take our country away, they are trying to take our religion away.” A local militant Islamic group is thought to be responsible.
