New Oak Hill Principal

Former Moore College lecturer, the Rev Dr Michael Ovey, has been appointed Principal of Oak Hill College. Oak Hill is the main evangelical training college in the Church of England. He will take over from the current Principal, David Peterson, who is returning to Australia mid-year. Most recently, Dr Ovey has been Dean of Oakhill College and has been a member of the college’s Management Team, where he has helped shape the college’s future vision.

House-church leader released

Liu Fenggang has been released after being imprisoned for three years. Liu was given the sentence after he reported the destruction of a house church to foreign Christian organisations, accused of leaking national intelligence overseas. Liu said he was grateful for the support of his family and fellow Christians.

Kazakh pastor missing

Rishat Garifulin, a Kazakh pastor visiting a protestant church in Uzbekistan, has not been since his arrest in Samarkand on February 8, when police found him carrying Christian literature. The customary detention period is three days.
