As a part of their Heightened Evangelistic Activity Time (HEAT) mission week, students in UWS Penrith’s Campus Bible Ministries group wrote the entire book of Ecclesiastes on a blackboard at the Kingswood side of the campus.
This idea has been used in previous years, with butchers paper. The change of media was deliberate, to highlight “the ephemeral theme of the book of Ecclesiastes”, according to UWS chaplain, Rob Elder.
This year CBM students and staff participated in a new activity – a debate with some atheist UWS students who agreed to take the Christians on.
This attracted double the visitors to the weekly public meeting, and many stayed around afterwards to continue the discussion. This is an encouraging sign, says Mr. Elder. “This indicates that for a small number of people, what we said did strike a chord.”
