The national Anglican General Synod agreed in late October to make mission a priority for the next three years, with a focus on church planting.

The Mission Task Force has also been renamed Fresh Expressions Australia and will be responsible for keeping evangelism and church planting at the forefront of the Anglican Church’s agenda.
At the Synod, the Task Force suggested that the role of National Mission Facilitator be made into a full-time position.

The National Mission Facilitator is currently Stuart Robinson who is also rector of St Paul’s, Chatswood.
“It’s ended up being a 12-week-a-year job which my parish at Chatswood generously underwrites,” Mr Robinson says. “I believe a full-time person or two half-time staffers is the way forward.”

The General Synod commended the Task Force for its suggestion.

“I myself have no designs or desires for such a [full-time] position,” Mr Robinson adds.

In the meantime, Mr Robinson has formed a hand-picked group of 11 Anglican ministers known as the E-Team who are ready to assist church leaders in outreach.

He has also released a new book in his capacity as National Mission Facilitator entitled Starting Mission-Shaped Churches, which he hopes will ‘equip leaders in planning for and birthing new communities of faith’.
