Southern Cross reports on the main decisions of the Diocesan Standing Committee in March.
Employment guidelines revised
The Parish Services department of the Sydney Diocesan Secretariat is working on new employment guidelines to assist parishes with their human resources procedures and compliance with State employment laws. The revised guidelines cover areas such as employment conditions and entitlements, record-keeping and taxation. They will also include new areas of regulation such as workplace surveillance laws, superannuation choice and parental leave and unlawful termination under the Federal Government’s WorkChoices reforms. The guidelines will cover volunteers, contractors and trainees. Parishes have been kept up-to-date on these changes through separate circulars. The guidelines are expected to be released around the middle of the year.
Professional Standards Committee announced
Standing Committee appointed an internal Professional Standards Committee to advise the Professional Standards Unit. Archdeacon Deryck Howell was appointed chairman.
