Ruth Graham’s life was celebrated at a public funeral on June 16, with her husband, world-famous evangelist Billy Graham and five children participating in the program and all 19 of her grandchildren serving as pallbearers. The 2,000-seat Anderson Auditorium at the Montreat Conference Centre was filled to capacity with family members and friends from the local community.

Dr Richard White, Mrs. Graham’s long-time pastor at Montreat Presbyterian Church, welcomed attendees.“We gather today to say goodbye to truly a good servant, Ruth Bell Graham, but we also gather to say we believe in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord,” he said before praying. “Our hearts are heavy with loss, yet we dare rejoice, for she is with you.”

Mrs Graham was buried at a private interment on June 17 attended by family and close friends. She was laid to rest in the grounds of the recently dedicated library bearing Mr Graham’s name, located adjacent to his ministry headquarters in Charlotte.

Billy Graham shared fond memories of his wife of more than 64 years. “You are such a wonderful family – she loved you all,” he told them reassuringly. “The Bible says the Lord has prepared a place for us and I know He has prepared a home for her – I hope she saves a room for me.”

At the conclusion of the service, Mr Graham took a red rose, which he kissed and placed on her casket. He prayed for several minutes followed by each of their five children in turn, similarly honouring their mother.
