Queen’s Birthday Honours 2006

Australian Anglicans account for 42 of the 670 awards presented on the Queen’s Birthday.

Heading the list is Donald McDonald, chairman of the ABC, a director of the Glebe Administration Board and a church warden at St Mark’s, Darling Point, who received a Companion of the Order of Australia (AO). Canon Alan Nichols from Melbourne received an AM for service through charitable and refugee organisations, and to the promotion of dialogue between government and the Anglican Church on a range of social welfare policies and practices.

Judith Wheeldon, former Principal of Abbotsleigh, also received an AM.

Other recipients included Sydney Anglican Graeme Herring, chairman of the Property Trust and treasurer of Abbotsleigh School Council, who received an OAM for services to business and the community. OAMs were also awarded to Myrna Grose (St Peter’s, Watsons Bay) for service through Christian radio broadcasting; Peter Hayward (St John’s, Camden) for service to Camden through church, historical and business organisations; Yuke Lan Woo (St Martin’s, Kensington) for ministry to Chinese immigrants; John Carrick (St Peter’s, East Lindfield) for service to the community through Rotary and Yvonne Henry (St James’, Turramurra) for service to children.
