The Rev Ross Nicholson says he will miss the people of St Stephen’s, Willoughby, where he has been rector for the past seven years.

“The congregation are enthusiastic and don’t need pushing along.”

Mr Nicholson will take up the position of Rector at St John’s, Launceston in the Diocese of Tasmania from September.

“Tasmania, like a lot of regional Australia has had some hard times which have impacted on the church,” he says. “Launceston has a long history of faithful evangelical ministry. I look forward to being used by God in a different place.”

The previous two rectors of Launceston have also been Sydney men, the Rev John Brook and the Rev Greg Clifton, who is now Rector of St Andrew’s, Lakemba.

Bishop of Tasmania John Harrower is looking forward to Mr Nicholson’s arrival.

“He’s a missioner for a missionary diocese,” Bishop Harrower said. “Launceston is a big regional centre. We look forward to Ross bringing people together in a city wide ministry.”
