Tom Frame heads to St Mark’s

Bishop Tom Frame will become Director of St Mark’s National Theological Centre in Canberra, after serving over five years as Bishop to the Defence Forces. Dr Frame says the move into theological education has been a long-term hope, and that he will focus on encouraging more laypeople to study theology. He expects that a replacement Defence Forces Bishop will be selected by the Primate and approved by the Metropolitans by March.

Pastors win Muslim vilification appeal

The ‘two Dannys’ have won their appeal against the ruling they vilified Muslims at a seminar on Islam in 2002. The Victorian Court of Appeal has ruled that some sections of the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act were misinterpreted. Danny Nalliah, one of the two pastors from Catch the Fire Ministries, said the decision was “more than a blessing” and a great day for free speech. The case will be tried again at the original tribunal later this year.

New mentor for rural evangelicals

The Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion (EFAC) in Victoria has appointed a new Training Officer. The Rev Richard Trist, formerly of All Souls’, Langham Place in London, takes up the role of developing evangelical leadership across rural Victoria, mentoring young clergy and training congregations in ministry skills.
