FAR WEST PARISH SEEKS PASTOR

A thriving church in Geraldton is seeking a new senior minister, but the local Bishop says that it is often hard to shift people out west.

“It can be a big call,” says Bishop David Mulready, who formerly ministered in Sydney.

“We had to leave our parents and adult kids behind.”

Bluff Point parish is in the Diocese of North West Australia, the largest diocese geographically in the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Bishop Mulready says that there are great opportunities for the gospel. “Geraldton’s a city of 33,000 people.

They’re thirsty for the Bible here, and there are lots of people who don’t yet know Christ.”

‘UNEXPECTED’ MISSION PARTNERSHIPS

Sydney congregations are partnering with Anglican churches across Australia for mission.

The Rev Stuart Robinson, rector at St Paul’s, Chatswood, says the move is an ‘unexpected outworking’ of his role as National Mission Facilitator.

A team from St Paul’s recently returned from partnering with South Ballarat in a short-term mission, and Mr Robinson will offer training in evangelism for upcoming mission events in Goulburn’s Cathedral parish.

He will also speak at conferences in Newcastle and Perth. He hopes that an ongoing ‘twinning’ with parishes in other dioceses is something that other Sydney churches will embrace.

Next year, a team from South Ballarat hopes to visit Chatswood.
