In 1891 Moore College moved from its original site in Liverpool to its present location in Newtown beside the University of Sydney.  Today the College faces a change even more important than the move from Liverpool. We thank God for the growing number of gifted, godly students. This year we have seen a record number of 123 men and women graduate, a record enrolment of 136 students in first year (up about 30 per cent on last year), and a record total number of 340 full- time undergraduates. We may well see a College of twice the present size by about 2011 or 2012.

Among the many challenges facing the College, none is more urgent than the provision of adequate campus facilities.

The Moore College Council has considered a number of options, and has identified its preferred option as the University of Technology Sydney campus at Lindfield (popularly known as UTS Ku-ring-gai). UTS is examining future possibilities for this site. If an acquisition by Moore College were to prove feasible, excellent facilities could be provided for a residential college of 700 students, with room to expand further.

Whether or not Moore College will be able to acquire the Lindfield campus will depend on decisions by UTS, the local council and the State Government. The Diocesan Standing Committee has encouraged the College Council to continue discussions with these bodies.

If this acquisition does not happen, other alternatives are the University of Sydney Cumberland campus at Lidcombe, building on a greenfield site in outer Sydney, or a major building program on the Newtown site.

As in 1891, Moore College is about to relocate (or redevelop) its campus, for the sake of the next 100 years of training teachers and preachers of God’s word. It will be the most expensive thing that the College has ever done, and possibly the most important project that we have ever asked the Christian community to support in faithful prayer and generous giving.

I do hope you will.
