After reviewing their ‘life goals’ together, Paul and Suzanne Johnson decided long-term support for Moore College was a key part of defending and promoting the gospel.
Paul Johnson says he and his wife Suzanne “are ‘can’t help ourselves’-type evangelists”. He has run the Introducing God evangelistic course around 20 times across Sydney, and describes it as ‘the highlight of my life’.
But their passion for gospel ministry does not end there, as the Johnsons have ‘put their money where their mouth is’. Paul and Suzanne are long-term financial supporters of Moore College, and see this ongoing support as simply an extension of their kingdom priorities.
“There are things that we can’t do ourselves, and the only way we can do it is by financially supporting those who are doing those things,” Paul says.
The Johnsons began supporting Moore after taking a course on ‘setting life goals’. In forming their ‘master dream list’ for life, Paul says one of the few genuine priorities to emerge was ‘defending and supporting Reformed teaching’.
“I can’t think of a better way of equipping Christians than having well-taught pastors, because they’re the ones that will be responsible for teaching. If I can help those doing that teaching, it’s a great thing,” Paul says.
Paul and Suzanne also have a very personal connection to College: their son, Matthew, recently completed his degree at Moore and is now a Bush Church Aid minister in North-West Australia.
Despite living in the Lower Blue Mountains, Paul aims to make the trip to Newtown at least once a year, often attending the annual Moore College Lectures.
“It stretches me theologically, and I get to bump into staff or students. It’s great to touch base with where our money is going and be encouraged with the reality of people, not just keep it at arm’s length.”
Paul is passionate about Moore College continuing to grow student numbers, specifically hoping that people will come from – and go out to – the whole city. “The College needs more people happy and eager to minister all over Sydney – the places where growth is coming, especially in the west,” he says.
“I also hope and pray that Moore will have the courage to stand by the absolute truth of the Scriptures, regardless of the pressures of the world.”
