The amendment to the St Andrew’s Cathedral Ordinance 1969 was passed. The most significant change made to the Ordinance was to reduce the size of the Chapter from 27 to 18 members, with a larger proportion of those members elected by the Cathedral congregation. Under the bill, each elected or appointed member will hold office for a term of four years, after which they can be re-elected or re-appointed.

A report was received from Mr Peter Kell, CEO of Anglicare. The organisation plans to redevelop its Chesalon aged care homes at Malabar and Jannali and undertake a new development of a 120-bed aged care facility at ‘Ingleburn Gardens’.

Prime Minister’s letter re-affirms the importance of marriage and family

Standing Committee received a letter from the Office of the Prime Minister expressing gratitude for the Sydney Diocese’s support for the Australian Government’s stance on the recognition of marriage. The letter outlined the Government’s view that “marriage is a fundamental institution in our society” and indicated that “the Prime Minister has previously stated his belief that it is in the best interests of children to have the care and protection of both a mother and a father who act as role models and provide for their needs”.
