Hope sold to Hammond

The Sydney Anglican public health network Hope Healthcare has been sold to leading aged care organisation Hammond Care.

The sale price has not been made public.

Hope Healthcare has been a branch of the Anglican Deaconess Institution Sydney Limited (ADISL) since 1907, specialising in palliative care, psycho-geriatric care and community aged care.

The deal, which takes effect from July 1, will see Hope Healthcare become a wholly owned subsidiary of Hammond Care.

Chair of ADISL Gillian Davidson says her board has been grappling with having strong assets but insufficient income to undertake its core mission of “training and equipping women for gospel ministry”.

She says ADISL “could not continue in the longer term to effectively oversee a large complex sub-acute health business like Hope Healthcare” and that decision to sell to Hammond Care is a “win-win”.

ADISL is constitutionally Anglican. Hammond Care is an independent Christian charity with no official connection with any denomination, although it was founded by a prominent Sydney Anglican. Mrs Davidson says she is pleased Hope is staying in the ‘extended family’.

The CEO of Hammond Care, Dr Stephen Judd, says the acquisition of Hope Healthcare was a strategic move for Hammond Care.
