Mosman gets McAteer
The Rev Canon Bruce McAteer will become the new rector of St Luke’s, Mosman from July 29. He has been General Secretary of the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Australia since 2004.
Aitken moves to Belrose
The Rev Michael Aitken will become the new rector of St Stephen’s, Belrose on June 2. Mr Aitken was previously an assistant minister at St Matthew’s, Manly since 1999. Mr Aitken is looking forward to being a rector for the first time at Belrose. “I look forward to leading a church I have admired for many years for its good teaching and ministry, healthy relationships and a wholistic approach to mission where people are helped by word and deed.”
Pinter prepares for Windsor
The Rev Aleks Pinter will become the new rector of St Matthew’s, Windsor on June 23. He was previously working in the parish of Gerringong as a stipendiary lay worker from 2003 to 2006 and as assistant minister since 2006. “Susannah and I have loved being part of the Gerringong/Shoalhaven Heads communities for the last five and a half years. We go to Windsor with a strong sense of the Lord’s leading,” Mr Pinter says.
Tara leaves Uni for College
The Rev Tara Thornley will become the new Dean of Women at Moore College from January 2009. She is currently an assistant minister at Unichurch. “In going to Moore I’m excited about new challenges in a new context and helping to facilitate this next stage of women’s training at Moore College,” Miss Thornley says.
Wollongong welcomes Wale
The Rev Murray Wale concluded his ministry as the rector of St John’s, Keiraville on April 24 after four years as the rector. He commenced as part-time senior associate minister at St Michael’s, Wollongong on May 4.
Wallace begins at Belmore
The Rev David Wallace will become the new rector of Belmore with McCallums Hill and Clemton Park on July 1. Mr Wallace says he is looking forward to working in a multicultural community. “I’m excited by the potential of working in a changing area. We need to maintain the strong English-speaking ministry and work at outreach to people from many different cultures,” Mr Wallace says. Mr Wallace has been the rector of Peakhurst since 1991 and Peakhurst/Mortdale since 1996.
Gaunt moves to mountains
The Rev John Gaunt concluded his ministry in the parish of Pitt Town last month after more than 12 years as the curate-in-charge. “I will miss all the people and the ministry we have shared in together. Amid new ministry developments we also saw the development of the parish property.” Mr Gaunt will become the rector of Blackheath parish on May 31.
Nicholson goes north
The Rev Gary Nicholson will become assistant minister, parish of Macquarie in northern Sydney on June 16. Mr Nicholson has been the rector of St Barnabas’, Ingleburn since 1992. “I’ve lived in Ingleburn twice as long as anywhere else so I will miss home, the church, the friends and the work. It’s been a privilege to be involved in so many people’s lives at such important times,” Mr Nicholson says.
Michael Greenwood suspended
THE Diocesan Tribunal has recommended that the Rev Michael Greenwood be rebuked for his breaches of the Faithfulness in Service guidelines; removed from the office of assistant minister in the parish of Dapto; and prohibited from functioning within the Diocese of Sydney for five years from 15 January 2008.
VALE
The Rev Bob Simpson passed away on April 10. Mr Simpson was ordained in 1961 and served in the parishes of Lithgow, Ermington with Rydalmere, Lalor Park, Glenbrook and most recently Rooty Hill, since 1996.
