Sydney lawyer new General Secretary of General Synod
Martin Drevikovsky has been appointed the new General Secretary of the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Australia.
The St Aidan’s, Hurstville Grove member has practised as a solicitor for 33 years, specialising in commercial dispute resolution. As the General Secretary, Mr Drevikovsky will manage the General Synod office and liaise with the Anglican Consultative Council.
“Broadly, I see the role as enabling the machinery of the Anglican Church to function smoothly to promote constructive relations within the Church and engagement with our society at a national level,” he says. “Also, I’m told you need a sense of humour for the job. I think mine is sufficiently quirky.”
Canon Cornford retires
THE Rev Canon John Cornford has retired after almost 28 years of ordained ministry in Sydney Diocese. Mr Cornford, who retires next month, has served as rector of Albion Park Anglican Church since 1985. Mr Cornford says the hardest thing is leaving the people he and his wife Sue have come to love over the past 23 years. “It has been such a privilege to have watched children grow into Christians, be with them at their confirmation, take their marriages and later, to baptise their children.”
Thanksgiving for Nowra rector
THE Rev Dr Gavin Wilcox has resigned as the senior minister of All Saints, Nowra. Dr Wilcox became the rector of Nowra in 2002. He has been battling cancer since 2006 and has stepped down as senior minister due to bad health. He will continue to reside in Nowra and work as he is able as an assistant minister. There will be a service of thanksgiving for the ministry of Dr Wilcox at All Saints at 9am on Sunday August 10.
Lincoln leaves Asquith
THE Rev Gordon Lincoln has retired after almost 26 years of ordained ministry in Sydney Diocese. Mr Lincoln was the rector of the parish of Belmore from 1985 to 1990. He became the rector of St John’s, Asquith in 1990 where he remained until retirement. “We will miss the people and the work I have been doing in both the church and the community,” Mr Lincoln says.
Eaton heads to Apple Isle
AFTER 26 years of ordained ministry in Sydney Diocese, the Rev Mark Eaton will conclude his role as rector of St Paul’s, Oatley on August 24. He will take up the role of vicar of the parish of Longford, a rural town located 10 minutes outside of Launceston, in the Diocese of Tasmania.

The Rev George Gardiner
THE Rev George Gardiner passed away on June 18. Ordained in the Diocese of Bathurst in 1953, he served as a curate in All Saints’ Cathedral, Bathurst from 1953 to 1956, as the rector of the parish of Warren from 1956 to 1961 and as an army chaplain from 1961 to 1969.
The Rev Harry Edwards
THE Rev Harry Edwards passed away on July 3. Ordained in 1949, he served as a curate-in-charge of Flemington with Homebush from 1951 to 1954. He was the rector of Lithgow from 1954 to 1958, Pagewood from 1958 to 1970, North Sydney from 1970 to 1984 and York Street from 1984 to 1988. He was also an honorary assistant at the parish of Sutton Forest from 1989 to 1996.
