Cheng checks in at Carlingford

The Rev Gordon Cheng commenced as part-time senior assistant minister at St Paul’s, Carlingford in February. He is leading the 5pm congregation. Mr Cheng continues to work as an editor and writer at Matthias Media. Mr Cheng has previously worked in parish ministry at St Swithun’s, Pymble and Christ Church Gladesville and was senior staff worker at Melbourne University with the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students for 10 years.

Mostyn to Macquarie hospital

The Rev Paul Mostyn is taking up a new appointment as chaplain to Macquarie Hospital from June 4. He was previously the curate-in-charge of St James’, Berala, which he has led since 2004.

Nicholls’ new education role

The Rev Denise Nicholls has commenced as the new Director of Christian Education Services for the Council for Christian Education in Schools (CCES) in Victoria. Ms Nicholls was previously Chaplain at Tara Anglican School for Girls; prior to that she served as Assistant minister in the parishes of Cambridge Park and St Clair.

CCES is a statewide, inter-denominational Christian organisation which has been involved in the provision of Christian Religious Education (CRE) and Chaplaincy in Victorian state schools for many decades.

Ms Nicholls’ role as Director of Christian Education Services involves supervising the recruitment, accreditation, training and professional development of all CRE teachers in Victoria, and the development of the CRE curriculum that is used exclusively in CRE classes in Victoria, and also in other parts of Australia and overseas.

Baxter goes bush

From August 1, the Rev Chris Baxter will take up the position of regional officer NSW/ACT with the Bush Church Aid Society (BCA) of Australia. Mr Baxter will have the task of recruitment for mission, gathering support and sharing information about the ministry of BCA through deputations. 

Chris was previously rector of the parishes of Oatley West and most recently, Willoughby East. If you would like Chris to visit your church on a BCA deputation, contact 9262 5017.

DEATHS

Charles Sherlock 1918 – 2007

The Rev Canon Charles Sherlock passed away on May 9. He graduated from Moore College in 1940. He served as an RAAF chaplain from 1942 to 1946 and from 1952 to 1983. He was also the rector of the parishes of Campbelltown, Granville and Hunters Hill.
