Clergy Changes

Doctor heads from the hills

The Rev Dr Margaret Powell will conclude her role as an associate minister at St Paul’s, Castle Hill this September after 13 and a half years of full-time paid ministry there. Dr Powell has overseen the development of young adult, women’s and global missions ministries in her time there.

“It’s very sad to go because I’m leaving my church family but I’m also very confident that it’s the right time to move into another context for ministry,” Dr Powell says. “I am waiting and seeing what lies ahead and praying for God’s wisdom in planning my future.”
During her long service leave, Dr Powell will study in a Masters in Theology program at Moore College.

Appointments

New Anglicare council member

Alan Orr is Anglicare’s new council member. He comes straight to Anglicare from a 29-year career with Ashfield Baptist Homes.

There, as chief executive officer, he oversaw redevelopment of the two facilities at Ashfield which today cater for 136 residents and a staff of 130.

As well as bringing a wealth of experience on the issues surrounding Christian aged care, Alan and his wife Elizabeth are keen supporters of foster care.

“We have been foster parents to children and teenagers for over 27 years and two of these children have become part of our family,” Alan said.

“I suppose my interest in and support for what Anglicare is doing stems from the fact that Anglicare not only ministers to the aged but also works with families and children in need. This is very valid and important.”

As well as joining the Anglicare council, Alan is commencing a post with the Evangelical Union Graduates Fund at Sydney University.

Alan and Elizabeth are members of Christ Church, Gladesville
