CLERGY CHANGES
From chaplain to missionary
The Rev Ian Hadfield and wife Narelle are currently preparing at St Andrew’s Hall with CMS before they move to All Saints’ Anglican Church, Jakarta in Indonesia for an expatriate ministry position. They will be joined by their daughter Beth. In February, Ian concluded his ministry at Robert Menzies College, where he served as chaplain since 2002.
Clift claims Emu Plains
The Rev Jason Clift is the new assistant minister at St Paul’s, Emu Plains. He commenced full-time ministry at St Stephen’s, Normanhurst in 2003 where he was previously a stipendiary layworker and later an assistant minister.
New Moore College appointments
Moore College has three new lecturers this year. The Rev David Hohne is lecturing in Theology and Philosophy. He has been most recently working on a PhD in systematic theology at Cambridge University for the past three years. The Rev Greg Anderson is lecturing in Missions. He was previously Aboriginal Ministry Support Officer in the Diocese of Northern Territory. The Rev Dr Andrew Ford is lecturing in Ethics and Church History. He was previously an assistant minister at St Barnabas’, Broadway since 2003.
Hurstville ministry grows
The Rev Cam Phong Huynh is moving on from his assistant minister position at Cabramatta Anglican Church where he led the English services and ministry for the past five years. He took up a new position as senior assistant minister at St George’s, Hurstville last month and is looking after youth and young adults’ ministry.
Peter heads for the Hill
The Rev Peter Clark has concluded more than a decade of ministry at St Michael’s Newport, where he was rector since 1996. He will begin a senior assistant minister’s position at the parish of Hunter’s Hill later this month.
Club Mac gets new chaplain
Scott Blackwell will take up the post as Chaplain to Robert Menzies College, Anglican Chaplain to Macquarie University and pastor of Trinity Chapel after three years on staff at Christ Church, St Ives. He commences on February 4th. “We are very excited by the ministry opportunities at RMC and on campus,” Scott says. “It is a new direction for Deb and me, but one that really sparks my imagination.” Scott is married to Debby and they have two adult children, Hannah and Chris.
Leigh leaves for Bulli
Leigh Roberts and his wife Merrilyn and his children Anna and Tom will be moving to St Augustine’s, Bulli. “With more than 3,500 kids under 15 and seven schools in the area, and with marriages and families experiencing real challenges today, we believe that the time is right and are very keen to work with families and community groups in the area,” Leigh says. He was previously a senior assistant minister in the parish of Figtree since 1998.
Stanis heads for Hong Kong
The Rev Stephen Stanis will conclude almost four years of ministry at St Stephen’s, Belrose in May. He will take up the position of assistant minister at St Andrew’s, Kowloon in the Diocese of Hong Kong with CMS.
GENERAL APPOINTMENTS
CMS Australia’s new position
CMS Australia have appointed their inaugural Development and Training Secretary. The Rev Canon Dr David Williams has been appointed to develop an innovative and strategic training program for both new and current missionaries. Originally from England, David and his wife, Rachel have worked with Crosslinks in Nairobi, Kenya since 1999. David has extensive experience in training, most recently serving as the Principal of Carlile College. David, Rachel and their three boys will move to Australia in November.
Youthworks gets French influence
Jim French joined the Youthworks College Faculty in January this year and is teaching New Testament and youth ministry skills. Jim was previously the youth minister at Orange Evangelical Church from 1999 to 2006. He also studied at Moore College from 1992 to 1994.
New MTS national director
Ben Pfahlert took up the role of National Director of the Ministry Training Strategy (MTS) in February. Between 2001 and 2006 Ben and the ministry team at RMIT University, Melbourne trained 16 apprentices. Ben seeks to raise awareness about the strengths of the MTS approach. Colin Marshall was previous National Director for 15 years and was co-founder of the MTS in the 1980s.
