St Peter’s, Mount Victoria used the Mount Victoria Great Train Weekend as an opportunity for outreach during the last weekend in May.

Members of St Peter’s have been involved with the annual event since it first started in 2005, by recreating a railway refreshment room (RRR) in the church hall.

St Peter’s member Jack Thompson, who started his working life at the original RRRs in the 1940s when Mount Victoria was primarily a railway town, says the event is a great way for the church to reach locals and travelling train enthusiasts.

“It attracts keen interest because of the age, beauty and heritage of the church itself. This has become a major fundraising activity for our church,” Mr Thompson says.
