Church planter shifts to Shire

After five years serving in Sydney’s South-West, as assistant minister at Narellan and curate-in-charge at South Creek, church planter the Rev Stefan Bull will become rector at St Philip’s, Caringbah from December 9. “Caringbah has a great tradition of evangelistic ministry,” he says.

The Rev Jonathan Squire, assistant minister at South Creek since 2004 will become curate-in-charge there.

Cunningham heads further west

The Rev Roger Cunningham, assistant minister at St Paul’s, Wentworthville for four years will cross the Nepean River to become rector at Emu Plains.

New role at Wollondilly

After serving almost ten years at Rosemeadow, the Rev Kevin Flanagan will move to the Southern Highlands in early January to Wollondilly parish.

Southwark vicar arrives down under

Formerly based in London, the Rev Graham Wintle was appointed on November 1 as rector of St Stephen’s, Willoughby. He was previously vicar of the evangelical parish of Christ Church, Surbiton, in the UK Diocese of Southwark.

Surf’s up at Maroubra

It’s back to the beach as the Rev Stephen Bligh takes on the role of minister at Maroubra Surfers’ Church. He began full-time ministry at Maroubra in 1987, also serving at Kiama, Bondi Beach and Bellevue Hill. He has served as curate-in-charge at North Ryde since 2002.

Wiltshire moves to Pyrmont

The Rev Joe Wiltshire begins a new role as curate-in-charge of the Peninsula Community Church at Pyrmont on January 16, after two years as assistant in Windsor.

From the Inner West to the coast

After four years serving as assistant minister at Darling St parish in Rozelle/Balmain, the Rev Stephen Dinning will become rector at beachside Austinmer in early January.

Out-of-the-box minister moves east

Taking innovative ministry ideas like film nights and community barbecues with him, the Rev David Milne will start as rector at Panania Anglican Church on January 18. He has served as curate-in-charge at Liverpool South since 1999.

Opportunity at North Rocks

The Rev Adrian Russell will take a new position as assistant minister at St Paul’s, Carlingford in late January. He will work with the church plant at North Rocks Public School and hopes to start a new congregation during 2007.  He has served as assistant at Springwood since 2004.

New rector for Cooks River

The Rev Shane Rogerson will take up the position of rector at St Peter’s Church, Cooks River after serving as assistant minister at Kiama since 2003.

GENERAL APPOINTMENTS

New MTS National Director

Ben Pfahlert, currently a Senior Staff Worker with AFES at RMIT in Melbourne, has been appointed as the new National Director of the Ministry Training Strategy. He completed his MTS apprenticeship in Melbourne and studied at Moore College.

Southern Cross editor resigns

Madeleine Collins has resigned as editor of Southern Cross to pursue an opportunity with the US-based financial media company Morningstar. Their best known Australian title is Investor Weekly. Jeremy Halcrow who manages Anglican Media’s features and design department will be Acting Editor and News Director until further notice.

Walter Newmarch 1925 - 2006

The Ven Walter Newmarch passed away on October 23. He served in a range of different roles: starting his ministry in Gladesville in 1950, he was chaplain at the King’s School, and served with CMS in Malaysia.  He was the Canon of All Saints Cathedral in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah until 1968.  Back in Australia, he served as Archdeacon of Parramatta until 1990, returning briefly to Sabah in the mid-1990s.
