Black Friday dawns in Victoria

Abortion is legal in Victoria after a 23-17 conscience vote victory in State Parliament.

Victorian women can now have an abortion during the first 24 weeks of their pregnancy, and after this period with the consent of two doctors.

The date of the decision – October 10 – was dubbed ‘Black Friday’ by the Australian Christian Lobby, who have pushed the Government to follow through with assistance for pregnant women considering abortion. “They have declared themselves to be ‘pro-choice’ and supposedly aimed at helping women,” ACL’s Victorian state director Rob Ward said.

“Now let us see them prove that ‘pro-choice’ does not just translate as ‘pro-abortion’ and actually provide women with the support they need to be able to make genuine choices.”
