Glebe Board’s report on financial markets

Glebe Administration Board CEO Steve McKerihan reported to Standing Committee that a new distribution formula approved by Standing Committee in July/August last year had cushioned the impact of recent volatility in the financial markets on Synod distributions to support important mission activities.

Long service leave discussion

Standing Committee discussed the long service leave entitlements of lay stipendiary workers who make the transition to ordained ministry. Standing Committee requested that an ordinance be prepared to recognise continuity of service in such circumstances. Other considerations, such as the long service leave entitlements for lay ministers who transfer to another diocese, were also discussed.

Mission leadership event

Standing Committee discussed the possibility of holding an event for the broader leadership of the diocese to coincide with the first session of the 48th Synod in October this year, The event would be similar to the one held in the Town Hall in 2005 to mark the first session of the 47th Synod. Standing Committee considered that in light of Connect 09, a leadership event open to an audience beyond just Synod members - possibly held separately from Synod proceedings - would be desirable.
