Final Meeting of Sydney Synod today: to debate the introduction of women priests legislation, and also motions on chaplaincies, drought and if time allows, therapeutic cloning
The final session of the 2006 session of the Synod of the Diocese of Sydney will be held today, commencing at 3.15pm, in the Wesley Theatre, 220 Pitt Street Sydney.
At 4.30pm Synod will debate a private member’s motion that seeks to reintroduce onto the Synod agenda the General Synod legislation that allows for women to be ordained to the priesthood. If that motion is successful, it may be followed by debate on the General Synod bill.
At 7.00pm there will be a half hour presentation from the Diocesan Mission Board. This will be followed by debate on a motion concerning Anglican chaplaincies. It time permits there will be other motions debates, including one on drought, and another motion on therapeutic cloning.
