Joy in this world seems impossible to take hold of. Even as we seize it, it is already drifting away. C.S. Lewis wrote, "If we discover a desire within us that nothing in this world can satisfy ... we should begin to wonder if perhaps we were created for another world."

Reformed preacher and Baptist theologian John Piper argues that God intends to gain glory for Himself by showing us that He is our greatest joy. The Rev. Piper's classic sermon series The Quest For Joy shows how a determined search for lasting happiness will ultimately lead us out of this world and into the arms of our Creator.

This sermon on 1 Corinthians 10:31 is the second in a series of six preached at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minnesota in 1989.
