Anyone else like Ezra Pound?

all this talk of money and TS Eliot on other threads reminds me of Ezra Pound.

Here’s a bit of a poem (Ezra died 1972, so don’t quote whole poems...). this one’s about fishermen, and you can plug it into Google pretty easily to find the whole thing.

... I have seen them with untidy families,
I have seen their smiles full of teeth
and heard ungainly laughter.
And I am happier than you are,
And they were happier than I am;
And the fish swim in the lake
and do not even own clothing.

(bit hopefully… your turn!)

Can I suggest a “Favourite Poets”, “Favourite Authors”, Favourite Book” etc threads to handle these?  Otherwise I’ll have to start the “Anyone like The Daily Show with Jon Stewart ” thread..

perhaps in the culture@home section?  if only I was a mod :) (kidding luke :)

From The Return

See, they return; ah, see the tentative
Movements, and the slow feet,
The trouble in the pace and the uncertain
Wavering!

See, they return, one, and by one,
With fear, as half-awakened;
As if the snow should hesitate
And murmur in the wind,
and half turn back;
These were the “Wing’d-with-Awe,”
Inviolable.

Gods of the wingèd shoe!
With them the silver hounds,
sniffing the trace of air!

He wrote great poetry, espoused horrible fascist politics.
