-wow- “What Would Jesus Iron?”.. everything apparently, including underpants.  And then he would fold them neatly and ensure everything in the underwear draw was in perfect order before turning to the making of the bed.  Now we can account for the 30 years before he began his public ministry!

This would be a great candidate for Heal Your Church Website .. Jesus Junk, appalling colors, marquee scrollers..

My favourite article is How to burn candles safely .  Damn!  So it’s not safe to put the candle under the cat? rats..

My favourite bit of advice was:

Once all the wax in the bottom of the container is melted your candle is finished.

Oh! That’s when the candle had finished!

And in other news, “When your car stops in the middle of the street with the fuel gague pointing to 0, that’s when you have run out of petrol”

Trim candle wicks to 1/8” to prevent smoking.

Cheaper than Nicorette..

G’day Gordon, back to the socks…

Based on long years of using Nappy San (on my own white uniforms before the days of four children), I can tell you that if Nappy San won’t get your whites white, it’s time to BUY NEW ONES! Anything else (like mild acid) will just make the socks too thin to wear, so…

If you don’t want your daughter to wear the grubby socks (who will see them inside her shoes?) then buy her some new ones.

On a related matter - does anyone have any advice on getting (communion) Port out of a white shirt (apart from Nappy San)? Given my clumsiness I ought to have the advice on hand for the next time I need it.

new socks

can forsee the need to buy heaps of socks cos kids make socks dirty easily.
alternatively coudln’t you buy white stocks which have the toe bit in a darker colour and the heal bit in a different colour.

erm. that would save it getting dirty. and it would still be white theoretically since u’d only see the ankle part in sports shorts????

not sure. erm. okay. procrastinating over.

[quote author="Rowen Atkinson"]Cheap home espresso kits will pull 1-2 shots of good espresso a time.  You then have to start again with the 3-4 shots, which means depressurising the group, removing the portaflter, changing he grinds, waiting for the boiler/thermoblock to cool, and then you are ready.

10 shots would take a looooong time.  Like an hour from when you switch the machine on.  If you wanted 10 shots on a regular basis you’d need an automatic machine with a 3 way solenoid and a built in grinder, and you are talking $1000 minimum.  The good ones are $2K .. :|

5-6 shots is the maximum capacity at $ 500 espresso coffee machine. Am I right? Sound like I still need to go to my local coffee shop for a while.
And how long does it take to warm up the machine for a 3Liter capactiy.

Gordon,

Regarding the sock whitening, I’m with Richard

it’s time to BUY NEW ONES!

I have checked my sources and here are a few suggestions for you to try. Apologises if I’m repeating anyone else’s ideas. Here goes:-

1. Dab residual stain with methylated spirits, followed by a wash in boidegradable detergent. Old stains will often come out if covered with glycerine. Dilute the glycerine (I think you buy it from your local pharmacy) with an equal amount of water to soften dried-in stains. Leave 1 hour and wash as usual. OR

2. Soak for over 12 hours in salted water. Wash as normal.

3. All else fails buy new socks.

Do keep us informed.

Thank you all for this thread - I really really needed a good laugh this morning ...  :)

BTW - I’m with whoever said ‘who cares if the toes/sole/heel of white socks are stained if they are in the shoes and no-one sees them’ - sounds like my winter ironing regime ...

Well I’m still in information-gathering stage and have checked out a few websites; thanks everyone for the help so far. Enkidu, surprisingly the Baptists were not that practical. They suggested just finding a river and leaving the socks underwater for a long time. So lemon is still top of the list. I don’t want to go off half-cocked and try the wrong idea, or worse, a bad combination which cements the dirt in place. As for new socks, that doesn’t seem particularly thrifty.

IS there such a thing? I’ve never had one except out of Mr Heinz’s can (or was it Mr Campbell’s)

I would love to have it too, provided its a vegetarian one. :)
