A new debate is emerging in the Anglican Communion over the real roots of Anglicanism. An American academic has asserted that English Anglicans are losing the battle with modern historians as to the Catholic element in Anglican history. I argue that it is thoroghly Protestant in origins ., and that the Via Media ( which the Presiding Bishop of TEC always makes appeals to , as a front for modern heterodoxy)was in fact hard line Elizabethan Protestantism, which uthlessly disinherited the English Catholics.
