This thread for all those people who don’t drink coffee and can still call themselves “hip”!

Hi Heather,
Haven’t heard from you in a while. Welcome back. Have you finally come out of your winter hibernation ?
If you don’t drink coffee ( and I don’t quite understand that concept ) - and if you still feel challenged to call yourself ‘hip’ -what indeed have you been eating and drinking ? And has it gone to your hips ? Can you still dance the hippy, hippy shake ? And is it really hip to be square ?
I will ponder all these question after another cup of - yes, my favourite drink - coffee.
Speaking of which, and taking the thread in the opposite direction, we were really upset at the closure of our local Macarthur Square Starbucks on Thursday night. The place was packed to the rafters as many regulars turned up for their final caffeine-fix at such a great place. We actually referred to it as “our other office” where we met and made plans - or just relaxed. You would have loved the ambience - they even served hot chocolate ( or water for all I know ) for non- drinkers such as yourself ! ( Maybe even tea - but I wouldn’t know about that as I am a tea-totaller ( my spelling is correct ) - never drinking tea that is.
“cheers” Kevin
ps ( She asked ‘anyone for Twinings ?’
And the chorus came back with “ Yes please”. )
Great to acknowledge an often persecuted part of our society.
Sometimes when i have gone away on retreats and such gatherings you will find the most fancy cofee beans and machinery to make the perfect cofee. It is all layed on and wonderfully constructed. If I ask “Is there any tea?” “Yeah there’s some Lan Choo bags in the cupboard.” I don’t even ask about sugar anymore and I bring my own tea leaves.

YES!!!
For the info of my boss, there are LOTS of us! And we are very cool.
Though I do drink decaf very occasionally. And sometimes I just sit and nurse it and inhale the aroma and go into raptures. I do miss coffee, but since I gave up caffeine three years and one month and fifteen days ago, I drink peppermint tea almost all the time. Tastes great, warms me up and I’m sure it’s good for me. And it’s cool! And hip!
Having been “on the wagon” (coffee-wise) for 6 months now, I am feeling “hipper” (more alive) than ever ...
It seems to me that the beneficial effects of coffee are a myth - and yes, there are plenty of other drinks out there to substitute (except at Starbucks, so amen to its near demise!).

????
What is so feeling “more alive” about yourself when over 630 fellow Australians have lost their jobs - and some of them are our friends ? Can we please aim for a bit more compassion when trying to make a glib comment. A lot of people are hurting over the closure of their favourite coffee shop - and not only the retrenched staff and their families - but also their customers who enjoyed their friendships.
Even if the state is not involved in the regulation of marriage it still has an interest in identifying voluntary and exclusive adult sexual relationships since the existence of such relationships will impact on a variety of areas such as health and social security benefits, child custody and inheritance arrangements. A marriage ceremony and certificate does provide a very straightforward, objective and non-intrusive means of identifying such a relationship. Alternative methods of identifying a relationship are likely to be more complex, time consuming and potentially intrusive -eg interviewing people about their sleeping arrangements. So abolishing the Commonwealth Marriage Act could have the paradoxical effect of increasing state involvement in people’s private lives.
Even if the state is not involved in the regulation of marriage ....... the paradoxical effect of increasing state involvement in people’s private lives.
Hi Mark,
You’ve obviously posted this on the wrong thread. Perhaps if you had had a hot cuppa coffee, you would have been more alert !
Hooray for the tea drinkers!!
Congratulations in coming out of the closet and admiting it.
Solidarity to us all.
Maybe we could start a society of tea drinkers?
If we did start such a society …… my measure of success of the society’s influence ………would be to see just one KCC guest speaker admit in their bio that one of their hobbies was Tea Drinking instead of coffee!!!
Thank heavens a Catholic versus Protestant free thread! Hip hip hurray!
When in Melbourne come to South Yarra Presbyterian - we serve the full range of Twinings teas as against a lone jar of Home Brand instant coffee, alias Yuk.
PS Is Dave Lankshear around so we can get back to more interesting things?!!
