I’m concerned about how wide spread cancer, heart disease and mental health issues are in our society and church. My question is; “As Christians is it appropriate to promote more than just spiritual health, but also physical and emotional health?”
When I bring it up with Christians they tell me not to worry about such things as this body is but a tent and not to invest too much time in a temporary dwelling.
However I see the misery at funerals where a persons life has be cut seemingly short and I sense the injustice people feel.
How far can we go with this issue. I know Christians practice medicine Christianly and Christians practice physcology Christianly, but we don’t seem to want to do this from the front of Church???
Personally I want to promote the wholistic health of the people I pastor. However I don’t know if that is appropriate.
For example I recently found the ORAC scale
http://optimalhealth.cia.com.au/OracLevels.htm
That can be used to work out the foods to include in your diet to prevent disease caused by free radicals.

Also being a scientist and familar with chemical safety data sheets I want to educate people about the chemicals they consume in their foods and put on themselves in their personal care products so they can reduce their toxin load.
I guess it is little like preaching how to care for your environment, and looks a bit like social justice which are side issues to preaching saving grace. But can’t we look after the whole Christian and not just the part that is seated in the spiritual realms in Christ?
