Hi Everyone,

Does anyone hear listen to or know of Neal Morse?

The man is a talented US singer/songwriter/musician who discovered the Lord and decided to dedicate his musical career to God.

If anyone is interested, I would highly recommend his first solo album ‘Testimony’, which charts his personal journey from a depressed and godless musician in L.A. to his encounter with God through his church and his decision to dedicate himself fully to God. Great lyrics full of hope in the salvation of the Lord.

And the music is absolutely mindblowing…

Yours in Christ,

Alexander

Yes indeed - he is amazing. I preferred his two subsequent albums, but Testimony is brilliant.

I’m a big prog rock fan, and was a fan of his band Spock’s Beard. He is such a leading figure in the neo-prog world that when he converted I remember thinking ‘this must have been what it was like for Christian folkies when Dylan started releasing Christian records’.

Have you heard much Spock’s Beard stuff? Their last album with Neal Morse, Snow, is quite stunning. A double CD concept album - yeah! Spock’s latest post-Neal CD was also pretty good.

Hi Gareth,

Yeah, I’m a big Prog-Rock fan as well, and really enjoy all of the intense and technical aspects of that style of music.

I recommend Testimony, as I think it’s a great way for others to appreciate Neal’s work. While I wasn’t too thrilled with ‘One’, I have to say that I was absolutely blown away with ‘?’ - that is an absolutely amazing album and one that I constantly play. ‘Sola Scriptura’ is great musically, but because of where I sit in the religious spectrum, I have some issues with the lyrical content.

With Spock’s Bread, yeah I’ve got all of their stuff. I much prefer ‘V’ over ‘Snow’. I appreciate where ‘Snow’ takes me and what it is saying, but the music just doesn’t have enough substance for me to really enjoy it. I much prefer ‘The Great Nothing’ off ‘V’ for its beauty and power.

Also love Transatlantic (you should also be familiar with them?), and that amazing track ‘Stranger In Your Soul’ off their second (and looks like last) album.

Good to meet a fellow Prog-Rocker here - we’re a scarce breed in Oz…

Yours in Christ,

Alexander
