Ya
I wouldn’t move to Midsomer to save my life… mind you, it’s ideal if you want to take one.
Have you noticed how all of these guys, and Poirrot tend to be catalysts for yet more death?
I wouldn’t have them or Miss marple anywhere near my place or kin!
It’s a bit like the journo in the 70’s TV series “The Night Stalker”. Everywhere he went homicidal spooks or ghouls of some sort or another managed to manifest. He’d really bum out a party just by turning up and having some evil gremlin arrive in time to disembowel the host.
Mind you, I keep thinking “If any police force had this many serial killers in their district then they’d be best to shoot the lot and start over....”
Although not serial killers, there are still plenty of murderers lurking in Midsomer as well. Perhaps it’s something to do with fluoride being in the water - or not - as the case may be.
Fluoride! Yes! Fluoride’s to blame!
The dentist was telling me just yesterday that fluoride was toxic stuff. She was telling me to beware of feeding it to my daughters, make sure they spit it out etc.
But you don’t need to talk to me about that. The people out there are polluting our precious bodily fluids (Dr Strangelove ref, seeing as how this is Bughunt).

You’re up late ‘General Jack D. Ripper’ - then again, so am I ( just got home ).
Mandrake, have you ever seen a Commie drink a glass of water ?
“Dr Strangelove” - the original source of all modern day conspiracy theories !
Yeah right! That’s a diversionary theory started by the Illuminati who are actually a front for the Masons, who are really controlled by the Catholics, who are ultimately answerable (OK, the Jesuits- but they really control the RC Church) to a secret Rhodes scholars organisation, who are a Jewish front for a Sunni organisation that actually belongs to an order of the Templars who are really Hashishin who are actually Gnostics .......................... er.....
Nick Naylor: My point is that you have to think for yourself. If your parents told you that chocolate was dangerous would you take their word for it?
[Children say no]
Nick Naylor: Exactly! So perhaps instead of acting like sheep when it comes to cigarettes you should find out for yourself.
I watched the original “The Day the Earth Stood Still” again last night.
Bought the vid yonks back to much mockery from the kids. Now it has status apparently, as “the only black & white worth watching"… which is something I guess.
Still a great movie. I hope the remake is worth watching. Possibly timely as was the first, as once again we are busily killing one another.
I bought TDTESS DVD (are they the right initials?) a couple of years back and it is certainly a great movie. The fact that it is black and white adds to the story I think and the DVD also has a great audio commentary from Robert Wise (director) and Nicholas Meyer (who directed one or two of the better Star Trek Movies). I don’t know about Keanu Reeves in the new version though. Michael Rennie managed to convey a Christ like compassion along with an alien aloofness. One of my favourites.
And I am sure it will chock full of special effects at the expense of the story. For its day the original had great effects but what I love about all those old sci-fi movies is when they wanted to switch a light on or make there ship go up or down all they did was move their hand over the sensor or whatever. I guess they couldn’t afford fancy switches.
I always wondered what would happen if the captain of an alien mother ship moved his hand over to the “fire death ray” sensor that was conveniently right beside the “auto destruct spaceship” sensor. What if he accidentally waved his hand 2cm too far to the left - whoops…
I’m also looking forward to seeing John Cleese as Professor Barnhardt ( played by Sam Jaffe in 1951 ). But Gort is not listed among the actors - so maybe he is a real robot this time - ( or an unreal CGI fantasy ) - not just an actor inside a big suit !
But there will be lots of action I’m sure - as the credits list 28 stunt people ! I believe it starts in the US this Friday.
