Missing ‘Happy Birthday Israel’

I am wondering what happened to the ‘Happy Birthday Israel’ thread?

I understand that it was moved to Dead Horses, and I think this was a good decision by whichever moderator made it. But my understanding was that such threads were routinely left open so that discussion could continue for those who were interested.

Good question - just when I want to read it I can only find fragments in Google.
Maybe it’s a conspiracy by the ...never mind.

I thought it was shut down because the moderator didn’t want to read any more pro Israeli posts And I, having ended up as the only Israel supporter left (one of two - the other having quit in disgust) am grateful at not having to read any more anti Israel rubbish.  I have my blood pressure to think of.

Or perhaps no one wanted to take on the Prime Minister on this one.

Was there anyone else apart from you and Andrew Tilseley?
I have only just discovered this discussion after the event and most of it was missing from the caches. I must say I was a bit startled and disappointed at what I read.

Yes, a great many people were involved. I can understand it being dead-horsed… being locked less so, but it’s disappearance is inexplicable!

Moody man, the true rulers of this forum are at home and feeding their kids dinner.

So am I, but I am the sort of parent who types on the computer while the girls are watching telly.

;-)

I reckon call back tomorrow and see what is going on.

It was locked because people were starting to ask for legal opinion about defamation, which is generally a good indicator that the discussion needs stop for a while so everyone can cool off. I locked it and moved it to dead horses, dunno what happened after that. Perhaps it was the allegations of defamation that got it removed, but I’m only speculating.

Hi Diana,

I don’t want you to feel isolated. There are indeed others like myself who are pro-Israel - but choose not to continually argue.  Thanks for hanging in there with the ‘discussion’ - however some of us have long learnt to follow the implications of Desiderata. Of course, this poem is not scripture, but I love the philosophical approach with respect to posting on these forums :

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit......

Like Dannii, I too am mystified at the inexplicable disappearance of the previous “Happy Birthday Israel” thread.  I cannot find any trace of it anywhere. Where do they bury dead ‘dead horses’ ?

Sorry Kevin but why do the pro Israeli people like me have to listen in peace and silence while the anti Israeli people can make as much noise as they like.  Your patronizing attempt to silence me is not appreciated.

I sure hope we can find that thread again, cause I’ll need to reread it. I can’t remember any anti-Israel people.

If you can find the thread again you’ll find that I listed the people.

I was a reader, only, of that thread. I agree with Diana that ‘anti-Israel’ people were allowed to make as much noise as they liked.

cheers,
Andrew
PS Diana, I was a bit confused as to how Kevin G was trying to patronise you.

Excuse me but I was not wrong.  Is your intention to gang up on me so much that I never post again?  Do you only want to talk to people you agree with?

You said Israel existed on stolen land - that means that in your eyes the Jews have no right to their homeland and therefore that you are against Israel.  Go look at a map of the middle east and see how much land the Arabs have and compare it with the size of Israel.  If you can’t allow the Jews that little bit that makes you in my opinion anti Israel [deleted by editor for legal reasons].

Please tell me which church you and Mark Tough pastor and I’ll make sure I never go there!  Do you have fights with your congregation or do they all agree with you all the time?

I go to St Paul’s Carlingford, the 9.00 meeting. I’m not the pastor, so you are safe.

If you come to visit my wife and I will serve you coffee or tea and introduce you to our friends.

And yes, you were wrong.

I think it’s a large jump to go from saying Israel stole some land to saying they have no right for a homeland. Everything isn’t so black-and-white.
