AMS Review here:

Pirates of the Caribbean

Agree with the review.

I loved this movie [and I saw it on Talk Like a Pirate Day to boot!]

I was discussing with a friend a few month’s back that no pirate movies have been made recently - and BAM! - this comes up.  Expectations weren’t too high [though Margaret & David liked it which is a good sign!]

A great many themes were covered, as well as it being a rollicking good laugh [though not without its “Eeeewww” moments as the girls I saw it with will testify!].  As the article says, redemption and forgiveness are covered, and not in a trite way.

Great performances as well, by all the cast - esp. Messrs Depp and Rush, and the utterly wonderful Keira Knightley, and also Orlando Bloom. The supporting cast are fantastic also.

I can heartily recommend this, ye scurvy landlubbers!  Weigh anchor and go see it!

I just don’t know if I could bring myself to watch a movie about a bunch of zombie pirates who need to make a blood sacrifice… even though I was in love with Johnny Depp as a 15 year old.

My female companions said that like a fine wine, Mr Depp improves with age! ;-)

Go on: there are only a few “Ewwww” moments.

I must agree with Ian here, Pirates was one of the first movies in a while that I can honestly say I genuinely enjoyed.  At no point was I bored or offended or let down, which is more than I can say for a lot of the movies that have come out lately :)

go see it

You realise you are forcing me to go see it now so I can work out what on earth the appeal is!

Go go go.....

Yes, even I in the club 50 age group thoroughly enjoyed Pirates - tho I closed my eyes in a couple of the sword fights scenes for a few seconds...just to give myself a break..... the movie was supurb.  I can still see Johnny Depp in his “nuanistic” flicks of movements.
