“I was recently in Melbourne, where I was stopped by a Christian urging me to turn away from NIV and go to King James Version as it is true scripture.  He further mentioned that KJV is much more accurate by which NIV omits important text, example in Colossians 1:14 - KJV mentions “In whom we have redemption through his blood”.  NIV misses out the wording “through his blood”.”

Greg, one helpful book I’ve read on this subject is called The King James Only Controversy by James R.  White.  The only reason I bought this book was because someone close to me was starting to believe that only the KJV is the word of God alone.  Some excepts of the book can be found in this link:

Having said this, google the book title above, and you’ll find some critics of this book.

To everyone: Regarding the NIV and ESV, I found this review to be very helpful:

May we continue to prayerfully read the scriptures regularly so that we can grow in our love for God and for each other, and in our passion to spread the gospel of Jesus, the message of the cross.

Your brother in Christ, Kenny.

My point was that some of these debates end up reminding me of that song, and I laugh because they make my brain tickle.

But what will happen as oil extraction actually slows down each and every year after the peak? Put simply, the economic consequences will be catastrophic. It will be like the 1970’s oil crisis, but this time it is here to stay.

Luke 9: 62 was part of the bible focus at church last week, and I have a translation question…

NIV says this:

Jesus replied, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

ESV says this:

Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Here’s a thought - a babel fish style translation of the French (Louis Segond version):

Jésus lui répondit: Quiconque met la main à la charrue, et regarde en arrière, n’est pas propre au royaume de Dieu.

Jesus responded/answered him, “Whoever puts hand to the plough, and looks back [lit. “behind”] , is not proper to [more likely “suitable for”] the kingdom of God.”

“She just said that [skipping + playing] is what children do,” said Roland.

Tiffany wondered about this. As far as she could see, children mostly argued, shouted, ran around very fast, laughed loudly, picked their noses, got dirty and sulked. Any seen dancing and skipping and singing had probably been stung by a wasp.
