‘Let’s get together….’ (you’re meant to hum it)

Hi people!!

It’s been exciting to see friendships being forged on the forums here and it would be great to actually get together, meet the people behind the posts and keep building on those relationships. Ideas about having a forum members social event have been floating around for a little while and so we thought that if it was going to actually happen we’d need to make it happen (Great- now I sound like a bank advertisment!).

We’ve run it past Luke who’s keen and has encouraged a couple of us to get the ball rolling (although this is not an ‘official AMS sponored event’!).

So ... behold we give you the-

NOT QUITE SO BIG DAY (OR NIGHT) OUT

The invitation is open to all forum members - both the big mouths (like me!) and those enslaved in lurkdom ;) Of course members’ spouses (or spices if you prefer!) and ‘significant others’ are also very welcome. We want to make the event as accessible to the most number of forum members as possible so we need to make a few choices about what is going to suit the majority of the populace.

Please note that the final details about the ‘Not Quite so Big Day (or Night) Out’ will be sent via email or PM so please be sure to let us know if you are interested so that we can keep you ‘in the know’.

Ok. So here we go. Please reply with your top two/three preferences (in order).

What day of the week suits you best?
a) Friday Night
b) Saturday Day
c) Saturday Night
d) Weeknight (please specify)

What kind of event would you prefer
a) Dinner at a relatively cheap restaurant (maybe followed by a movie)
b) Casual Picnic (BYO food/drink)
c) Other (please specify)

What general region are you located in?
a) The City
b) South
c) North
d) West
e) East

On the pre-liminary assumption that it will probably end up being on a Saturday afternoon/evening in October or November please let us know which Saturdays work best for you (or which are completely out)
a) Sat 11th Oct
b) Sat 18th Oct
c) Sat 25th Oct
d) Sat 1st Nov
e) Sat 8th Nov
f) Sat 15th Nov
g) Sat 22nd Nov
h) Sat 29th Nov’

Who are your favourite contestants on the Amazing Race
a)…

Nah ;) Just Kidding

From your friendly, self-appointed social committee ;)

Hey, great idea!!!!

Being a family man, head of a household of 7 - 8 if I include the dog, a saturday arvo would be best, in a picnic / park / beach type situation, live in the Wollondilly area south of Sydney but no worries about travel, I used to be a courier who ended up at Mona Vale or Palm beach every afternoon, before heading home -( geee that was so tough in summer, waiting around for peak hour traffic to stop before heading home)

Perhaps for those young / not so young / single / married / energetic youthful types you can go see a movie afterwards -

any saturday is fine for me

“I heartily endorse this event or product”

I’m pretty easy, Friday night or Saturday day/night suit, I’d probably prefer dinner but I have no wife/kids/home to look after, so I can see the benefits of picnic. Late October probably looks good to me, that gives us a solid 2 months in advance. I’m in The Shire but don’t mind coming into the city at all.

If you’re interested guys, speak up, so we can all get an idea of what date/place suits…

a)b) are both cool

What general region are you located in?
a) The City

c) North
d) West
e) East

South and East (Miranda anyone?) or the eastern suburbs (church is out there and I am at church nearly every day, and I am willing to travel).

On the pre-liminary assumption that it will probably end up being on a Saturday afternoon/evening in October or November please let us know which Saturdays work best for you (or which are completely out)

d) Sat 1st Nov
e) Sat 8th Nov
f) Sat 15th Nov
g) Sat 22nd Nov
h) Sat 29th Nov’

End of October or November suits me best. But can’t predict at this stage which date would be preferable.

This is so cool!

Great work guys - initiative plus!

Saturday Day or Night is best - my day off!

Happy with any of the event scenarios.

I guess I am closest to the city (inner west). Wherever it is would need to be close to public transport, unless someone is coming past Petersham!

I wouldn’t rule out any of those Saturdays definitely, but there are a couple of tentative arrangements which may mean I can’t come in early November, also I will be extremely busy late October...but it might be just the encouragement I need to actually take my day off, off!

Cheers
Matt

Hannah & Dani (<--- the latter of whom is entirely responsible for the Amazing Race crack so please don’t persecute poor Hannah!)

The latter is also responsible for the thought, planning and initial advertisement… I only suggested a picnic and this qualified me to be a founding member of the AMS social committee!

Well done, Dani, thanks for all your work!

Cheers,
Han :)

Great idea, ladies!  I think a Saturday picnic would suit most people best, but I’m fairly flexible.  I’m in Penrith and am willing to travel.  (Within reason!)

ditto the above.. saturday picnic, somewhere central sydney I guess.. any suggestions?  I’ll be coming from Wollongong, so it makes little difference to me (so long as it’s not richmond :) parramatta is the geographic centre of sydney (it’s also a major pain to get to from everywhere).. any advances?

What about Strathfield?

We could go to Homebush Bay park (Bicentennial Park?) or anything in that area really.

OR

If those from further afield are happy to come into the city, we could do the Botanic Gardens thing… (Easy to get to, well known, hard to get lost...)

[quote author="Nunc Dimittis"]hard to get lost…

Don’t be too sure about that, some of us can always find a way to do that :)

Strathfield sounds like a wonderful idea!!! :D (and don’t worry, the fact that I only live two stations from strathfield doesn’t make me biased at all! :p )

I’m pretty free and breezy, it just needs to be close to public transport.

Sounds like fun. :)

Re: Get together

[quote author="Jason Poulos"]Good stuff. I ‘m happy to contribute towards the ‘social’ aspect of this new kind of on-line fellowship.

Hmmmm ... This set me thinking - maybe we should have an on-line picnic! I’ll bring the cherries, Nunc can bring the sherry, Rowen or Glenn can bring the (silicon) chips, Sophie can bring the vegimite, Ian can bring the veal schnitzel, Sarah can bring the turkish delight, Adam can bring the coffee, Hannah can bring the steak and Matthew can bring the Grange Hermitage ...
;)
