I enjoyed the rendition of Paul Kelly’s Meet Me in the Middle of the Air, which I hadn’t heard before, on Sideshow on Saturday night. I’m not a big fan of this program [The Big Gig left it for dead, I reckon], but found this song based on Psalm 23 by a self-professed atheist very moving. Terrific 4-part harmony, nice toon, and, on first hearing, it seemed to be faithful to the original psalm’s intention.

Unfortunately, the producers did not put it on the Sideshow website as a highlight, but put other stuff, like Dave Hughes recycling his jokes ...

I saw Paul Kelly last week and he didn’t sing this.  In fact, I don’t think I’ve even heard it.  Is it on one of his albums?  I have the new one which has some Bible-based songs-is this one of them?  (If so, I’ve heard it, just don’t know the name)

Yes.. Its not from Paul Kelly’s latest album Stolen Apples.. this song is from his 2005 collaboration with the Stormwater Boys called Foggy Highway. This is a fantastic album.. one of my all time favs. But then again I love dirt music.

Kelly’s colloborations with blues/bluegrass bands (eg Uncle Bill on Smoke) tend to have a lot more ‘biblical/spiritual’ songs perhaps because of the genre.
