I’ve noticed all the fuss in the media about the appellate tribunal’s decision that there is no consitutional impediment to women bishops.

Isn’t this the same body that has already indicated there is no consitutional impediment to lay presidency of the Lords Supper either?

Yes and No,

My understanding (which others are free to correct) is that in the case of Lay Presidency the Tribunal declared that in theory LP was not inconsistent with the Constitution of the Anglican Church of Australia but that a General Synod canon would need to be passed for it to be introduced in practice.  At present no such canon exists.

In the case of women Bishops the Trinunal decision was that a existing General Synod canon could be interpreted to allow for it to be introduced in practice.
