Hey all,

thought some of you might be interested in an article found here from the Better Together website. I’m not sure where I stand on the issue, there are always good arguments from both sides. I tend to side with Piper and Grudem, but sometimes feel are can be a bit reductionistic...But they’re always much safer :-)

The article is by Graham Cole. Graham is Professor of Biblical and Systematic Theology at Trinity Evangelical University, Deerfield Illinois. Before that he was Principal of Ridley College in Melbourne.  Before that he taught for 12 years at Moore Theological College.

Enjoy friends

Hi Geoff,

We had Graham Cole speak at our recent Men’s conference. I found him excellent and he covered the topics biblically and all the men found what he had to say useful and challenging.

I was given the article you have linked to here as I have personally been working through the issues surounding women in ministry.

Having just heard Dr Cole speak I approached the article with anticipation having recently gone through Grudem’s work.

I was genuinely underwhelmed by the article. To be fair, the article is only short and therefore has limitations on covering material, however, I was not pursuaded by the arguments put forward.

Cheers
Jeff

Thanks Jeff

I understand you would be working through these issues. At one stage you had 2 women as senior pastors at your congregation, and one who preached regurlarly. In fact one of those women led her own service (gasp!) for a while. I quite enjoyed the service actually.

Hope all is well in the Hills

Cheers

Hi Geoff. Yes, this article popped up in another discussion about a year ago here. However, while Martin’s link in that older discussion is now broken, it’s still available here at MelbourneAnglican. (The BetterTogether article seems to be the very same article.)

If you’re interested in the whole women preaching issue (which seems very largely dependant on how to interpret one very difficult text in 1 Timothy 2), then you might find this article well worth reading too.

Thanks Angus, a good read. Interesting about Paul being sarcastic.

I had imagined this issue would have been heavily discussed at one time or another on these forums.

Cheers
