Does anyone know if this issue actually made the agenda today in parliament. The only thing I saw on the news was stuff on the budget.

Not sure, Erin, but either way there is still probably time to send an e-mail tomorrow am, possibly more if the legislation wasn’t introduced.

Thanks Derek, Erin and Michael. I’ve sent an email to my state rep after reading your posts and the links provided.

Angela - did you send to the senators or the lower house rep? The bill has already passed through the lower house (Legislative Assembly) and is now at the upper house. There are no local reps in the Legislative Council - each MP represents the entire state.

That is why it’s important to contact as many of them as possible. Their email addresses are in my earlier post.

Erin,

I sent it to my state rep, Mr Daryl MaGuire, and the Reverend the Honourable Dr. Gordon Moyes. I had to google Mr Moyes to learn his correct title for my email.

thanks
Angela

The Cloning Bill is ITEM NUMBER 1 on the agenda TODAY in the NSW Upper House.
This is likely to be from about 11am.
This will be the Second Reading and ministers will debate the Bill before voting.
My understanding is that if the Bill is successful,
it has a third reading and is rubber stamped by the governor.
It will then become law in NSW.

If you haven’t sent a letter to the senators in the upper house by now
its probably too late.

PLEASE PRAY for the defeat of this Bill.

For those interested in the listening to (or watching) the debate,
They do live webcasts vdeo and audio.
(I’ve never tried it before so I’m not sure if it works)
But here is the Link:

http://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/prod/web/common.nsf/V3HHBDayLC?open&key=20070620

Or just google NSW upper house and follow links to today’s program etc.

It is Item No 1 after Formal Business, which starts from 11am.

Mike I couldn’t get your link to work.

Here is a link to the page where you can choose between audio or audio and visual. I’ve tried both and they seem to work fine.
At the moment they are discussing global warming.

Thanks Erin,

They’ve just all left? (sorry - just voting on that global warming thing)

I rang this morning and they said it would be today.
Anyway, we’ll see what happens.

They’ve had a break for questions,
They’ll be back to debate the Cloning Bill at approx 330pm this afternoon,
The time they have allocated today till 10pm tonight (dinner break b/w approx 630-8pm)
If not resolved today, perhaps after 5pm thursday, if not then, next tuesday they’ll sit again.

There may still be time to email them.

For those who have listened to Melinda P, Marie F & Linda V, what do you think so far?

I found them difficult to understand at times. Was someone using church history to argue in favour of the bill or was I mishearing that?

Well the debate is still going - They’ll be back at 8pm to keep going till 10pm.
Depending on how many are still to speak they may or may not get to the vote tonight.

Those who have spoken against the Bill have been very good in my opinion.
Very thorough and substantial points put forward.

Those who have spoken for the Bill have had very lame reasons for their support (one of them being church history!!)

Although the debate seems clear cut, the vote may be entirely different.

Keep praying.

We have more time to pray (and perhaps writemore letters!)

The discussion on the Bill has been adjourned till Next Tuesday 26th.

I think the debate is over, and there will be some technical matters to deal with before the vote on Tuesday.

If you missed the debate and want to see what MPs have said
you should be able to find transcripts on the upper house website -
I believe they are called ‘hansard papers’

Someone else might like to provide the link when they are posted.

Mike
