I think this is worth to pray for. I hope when people read this topic, they will pray for the victims.

This is non-sense. That Chinese killer was dumped by a gal then started shooting around uni.

It’s insane!! i cannot beleive it. I’ve be rejected by many women, should I carry a semi-auto fire arm and start shooting at church, school and uni etc? It’s just unresponsible!

It really remind me the verse what 1 Cor 13:4-8 said

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails.

That xxx xx xxx xxxxx just disgrace Chinese. I guess this incident will become a joke material for a while and I will become one of the victims with this school violence history.

Similar and worse violence happens in Iraq nearly every day, and we don’t even blink.

I’m a culprit in this, also.

When I first heard the news, journalists claimed that the killer is an overseas Chinese studnet who hold a student visa issued from Shanghai.

And now they they said he is a native Korean who live in US with a Green card for a while. He moved to US since he was 8 y,o

It’s just a joke. Asian appearance = Chinese = student visa = Shanghai.

The news said he is a loner. He had depression but he refused to go to counselling. It sounds like I have some of his characters.

I’m writign this to remind myself that 190 people were killed yesterday in Iraq, which is only the worst for quite a while, in that war-torn country.

Puts things in perspective, but does not minimise the terrible tragedy in the US.

[quote author="Andrew"]Imagine if Islam wasn’t a religion of peace!

But the USA is a country where millions of people profess to be Christians.
Thousands of them die every year through violence, too, though the majority who die have shot themselves.

Hi andrew

i do appreciate your zeal for the truth and your passion for defending christian truth. however, when you said;

I trust atheists around the world are doing all they can by........hold on - if we’re only made up of chemicals and particles, then we don’t really have to do much at all! Better get back to me.

i don’t know if it is the wisest thing to say, nor is this the post for it. i do agree that your statement is a justifiable position for the atheist to take (and i do know of those who do) with their worldview, but it is not the position all athiest take. It seems to caricature athiests in an unfair way, and we HATE it when others do that to christianity!

We should definately conitue to dialogue with those of other faiths, but we should not take cheap swipes at them.
1 peter 3:15 comes to mind, to defend your faith “with gentleness and respect”

Blessings

Geoff

Virginia Tech, a Ministry of Presence Virginia Tech, a Ministry of Presence
April 17, 2007

Wes Barts graduated from Virginia Tech and has been a staff member with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Virginia Tech for three years. Wes works with an undergrad fellowship that numbers about 150 students. He feels the shock of Monday’s tragic shooting on campus as much as anyone. “Though it feels like a dark cloud is over the Blacksburg campus,” he says, “God is present.”

“It’s good that we know a God who knows suffering in Jesus Christ,” Wes says. “He knows how we feel. In this time of mourning, Christ is with us in our pain. In Christ Jesus we find our hope and refuge.”

After the campus was opened up and declared safe, Wes and fellow staff members Lindsey Jones and Robert Howe concentrated on being available to the students who were still in shock from the events. “We walked around campus all afternoon, comforting people.”

Facing the inevitable “Where is God?” questions that are posed after tragedies like this, Wes says, “God is comforting those who mourn. There’s a lot of love on the campus right now.”

He’s mobilizing a group of students to get out and minister to other students. “We want to go around and offer our ear and our comfort to anyone who’s still left on campus,” he says. “I am deeply encouraged by the love and comfort that our students give to each other and their friends. The Body of Christ is truly at work here.” Wes says the InterVarsity chapter has some specific prayer requests:

* Pray for the body of Christ, through the churches and campus ministries, to be united in expressing the hope we have in God.
* One freshman involved in the fellowship lost a roommate who was killed in the shooting.
* One student in the fellowship overslept and missed his class in Norris Hall during the shootings. He lost his professor, and four of his classmates were wounded.
* One senior in the fellowship was in a classroom in Norris Hall during the shootings. With the help of some classmates, he set up a barricade to prevent the shooter from entering the room. The shooter fired shots at the door, but failed to enter.
* One junior in the fellowship is a resident advisor in West Ambler Johnston Hall. She was a good friend to one of the victims who was murdered in the residence hall. The victim was a fellow resident advisor.

Many students left campus right after the shootings, but others remain. Wes and the staff of other campus ministries are preparing for a Wednesday mid-day memorial service. “After an intense and painful day, we are in mourning,” he says. “Thank you for your prayers and for sharing in our pain.”

News Release
For Immediate Release

(Madison, WI)—A statement by Alec Hill, president of InterVarsity:

We are stunned and saddened by the reports of today’s shootings at Virginia Tech. InterVarsity has three staff members who work with about 180 students on the Virginia Tech campus. We are thankful that none of them were directly harmed by the shooting. Staff and students are meeting tonight to pray for their campus. InterVarsity students are also planning a campus-wide prayer event on Wednesday at noon.

Our thoughts and our prayers are with the students of Virginia Tech and their families. Events such as today’s tragic shooting bring students to an abrupt confrontation with their own mortality. InterVarsity staff are trained to help students face life’s issues and find their hope in the promises of Jesus Christ. Our staff members, Wes Barts, Lindsey Jones and Robert Howe, ask for your prayers as they and their students deal with the impact of this tragedy.

Regards
Rebecca
