Evangelistic Event - help with ideas?

My women’s bible study is holding an evangelistic event.
We are thinking of doing something along the lines of ‘Body, Mind and Spirit”. We have had some good thoughts of things to do with Body, and will have an evangelistic talk around the topic of spirit. We are a bit stuck on ‘mind’ ideas though. At the moment we are thinking of having a few ‘stalls’ set up around the room with things like massage, natropathy, etc to cover the body stuff. This way people can try stuff out, learn how to, or receive a massage, etc. Can anyone think of anything for ‘mind’ that might be done in a similar way?
Also - do you think this seems like too ‘big’ an event for a small group, especially as a number of the women are quite pregnant, and most of us have young families? And do you think that non-christian women might come to something like this?
Any suggestions, comments are welcome.
speaking of families..... my son is now awake, so I must be off.
I look forward to hearing peoples suggestions..... Thank you in advance.

Erin go for it.

One thing I know from my wife (mother of 5) is that emotions run rampart during pregnancy.

Why not aim your whole evangelistic event towards mothers and pregnant women, with the theme of making them feel good about themselves, pamper away at your hearts content. I think a non Christian woman would love to recieve a bit of pampering.

Go for it, nothing is to big for any one if you pave the way first in prayer.

Perhaps the emphasis on the “mind” part could tend toward relaxing the mind..  so perhaps you could have “pride and prejudice” or something similar playing in the corner.

Otherwise, how about some board games that stretch the old noggin, like scrabble or trivial pursuit?

Good idea though, make sure you let us know how it went afterwards.

For mind, you could have a room set aside with relaxing music playing. Place a box in the room with bible verses on cards in it. The idea is that whoever comes in the door takes a card and reflects quietly on it, relaxing to the music.

On the Anglican Media home page, in the classified ads section, you will find a link to a ministry called Soulcare. This is run by David Irwin, the minister at St Paul’s, Canterbury in Sydney. He has some great ideas about the mind that you might be able to draw upon, Erin. He does a lot of teaching and encouraging about how to “unlearn” so many things that we have been told and our minds have accepted about ourselves (eg the parent who said, “you’ll never amount to anything”, or the classmates at school who said you were ugly, or whatever) and start to see what God says about us. He visited our work fellowship group one time and ran a brief session on “Your Mind Matters” that was really well received.

Body, Mind and Spirit

I understand Philip Johnson from the Presbyterian Bible College is a bit of an expert on explaining the gospel to people from a New Age background. He lectures in Cults and World Religions and Apologetics. He also attends the Mind, Body and Spirit expo every year and uses Christian “tarot"-style cards to share the gospel.

Presumably you can contact him via the Presbyterian Theological Centre at Burwood - (02) 9744 1977.

Wow - what fantastic ideas

Craig - we thought about aiming it toward pregnant women, especially as one of the women does ante-natal classes on caring for your body. We decided that this might be a bit restrictive though, as there were people we wanted to invite like our own Mums, and others without children.

Sarah - I love the Philip Johnson idea - thank you for the contact details. I’ll have a chat to our group on Friday and see what they think. I read about him in Southern Cross a while ago - sounds intriguing.

Thank you all

Erin
