I am hoping someone here will be able to help me. Some years ago I heard on radio a rendering of “Rock of Ages” sung by the Choir of St.Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney. It was the classic old Toplady version with several verses sung as a Bass solo by a man with a slight irish accent. This was undoubtedly the the most moving rendering of my favourite hymn and I have been looking to obtain it on L.P. or CD for many years without success. If anyone here has this recording, or knows where I can obtain it, I would be most grateful.

If no one here can help you I would suggest you try and track down the former Cathedral organist (whose name excapes me at the moment) and see if he knows.

Some suggestions:
1. Contact the Cathedral Shop, they sell CDs of the choir, and may have what you want.
2. The former organist was Michael Deasey, I believe he is now in Bathurst.
3. The Royal School of Church Music may have a copy of that recording. Meg Matthews is the name that comes to mind.

Hi Elisabeth,

Another option would be to ring the Cathedral School with your enquiry. They might be able to put you in touch with the relevant people.

“She just said that [skipping + playing] is what children do,” said Roland.

Tiffany wondered about this. As far as she could see, children mostly argued, shouted, ran around very fast, laughed loudly, picked their noses, got dirty and sulked. Any seen dancing and skipping and singing had probably been stung by a wasp.

Thank you to all who so kindly replied to my query. I have just come out of hospital today and hope to read your posts tomorrow. I am actually living in Auckland, NZ, so am not really a bone fide Sydney Anglican -just posted here to find this recording! But I am an Anglican so am at least partially qualified to come in here, I hope! Elisabeth

Hi Elisabeth
We welcome anyone to these discussion forums - Anglicans, Baptists, Roman Catholics, and yes, even New Zealanders!  (Being married to a child of Auckland, I’m especially partial to residents of that fair city.) Rob Denham has given you the info to enable you to contact Michael Deasey in Bathurst.  He would be your best starting point for the info you are after.  I trust you are in good health after your stay in hospital.
Regards,
Bob

Thank you, Peter Bell, for your PM. I sent you a PM in reply (thanking you) but it didn’t show up in my Sent PM folder as it said something was invalid. Never mind -hopefully you will read this and know that I appreciate that contact you sent and will send off an email very soon. Elisabeth.
