Next year our pastor is going to preach on Leviticus, and I was intrigued by this article in Christianity Today, entitled The 30 day Leviticus Challenge.

We are thinking of giving it a go. there is even a facebook group, called Living Leviticus set up by the people who originally tried it.

That’s a ridiculous idea, and seems to completely take Leviticus out of context. It was a set of laws built around the sacrificial system, and specifically the burnt offering, in order to set up a theocracy. They even had a day of atonement, surely that is heretical to the highest extent. No, we’re not to set up a sacrificial system, or to start a theocracy, and if we’re not to do that, then we’re not to attempt to put the rest of Leviticus into practice either.

I did… by having days of atonement, erecting tabernacles and other such foolishnesses.

That is an interesting read. This bit stood out :

If the rest of the congregation were to learn from our experiment, they had to be able to observe it beyond just hearing about it in sermons. Therefore, each participant opened a Facebook account and joined a Facebook group we named “Living Leviticus.” Participants posted journal entries, photos, comments, and videos. Daily online activity reminded us that we each were part of a (virtual) community of obedience. Because Facebook is a social networking site, a couple hundred people also joined the group and many more from all over the world logged in to read and comment.
