Hi Gill,

The PM you sent has not reached my inbox, but never mind for now.

So were you doing the work Kathleen Budden is doing now (diocesan education stuff), or similar?

As for “age”, some of my cathedral friends and I had John Chapman speak to us this week, and I think he’s 78 or more...whatever your hand - and/or your health - finds you to do, do it with all your might!!

I was considering short-terming in Dodoma during 2006...see my thoughts (expressed around 18 months ago) on
this related thread.

Regards,
Tia.

“She just said that [skipping + playing] is what children do,” said Roland.

Tiffany wondered about this. As far as she could see, children mostly argued, shouted, ran around very fast, laughed loudly, picked their noses, got dirty and sulked. Any seen dancing and skipping and singing had probably been stung by a wasp.

I have reproduced some snippets from some missionary prayer letters below.

Would you call the work these missionaries are doing mission?

If you would not, then why would you not?

Example #1.
Missionaries broadcasting into Asia with FEBC:

For 50 years, God has raised up His servants to reach [country name omitted] by radio, which [sic] faithfully preached the Gospel and taught from the Bible to nurture and train the believers and leaders in [same country as omitted above]. We have seen with our own eyes, and known from our own experience, that God uses FEBC to bless many people and churches in [same country as omitted above].

Example #2.
Missionaries doing Bible studies for working class people with OMF:

In the past few months, we see the Tea-night guys growing a lot in bible knowledge and in sharing different roles in the group. Please join us in prayer that God’s Spirit enter the Tea-night guys, they come to life, stand up on their feet and become a vast army (Eze 37:10).

Example #3.
Missionaries involved in a local Thai church through Pioneers:

Pray for [local Thai believers, names withheld] as [missionary] trains them to prepare and lead house group through some studies in Romans.

Example #4.
Missionary involved in ministry to French students with CMS (see 17th July entry for weekly prayer points on CMS website):

In Strasbourg this month it is “Youth action in the city”. Youth from all over France and some from elsewhere join with churches here in serving the community in various ways as a positive witness. Pray for [missionary] as she takes part.

Correct me if I’m mistaken, but all 4 examples, in my view, are mission - are not all 4 groups of missionaries involved in mission, as defined in the first ten or so chapters of the book of Acts, or even just in Matthew 28:19-20 (as starting points for reference)?

Hope this opens up more discussion on a thread that, while important, seems to have been neglected…

For more information on the 4 mission organisations listed, I provided links in a previous post

Hi Tia, sorry for the absence, I have been busy “missioning” with some newly arrived Congolese Christians.  I know John, - when I was young and he was old(er) we worked in the same building.  In fact, I think he would say that I was one of the original group who handed out tea and coffee to people attending the first “lunchtime Bible Study” in the city.....Don’t worry, I am doing what I can, where I can, and it doesn’t have to be overseas.

Saturday week, two other counsellors and I from my Church (MBM Rooty Hill) are putting on a “pre-evangelism” event “Relationship Wreckers”.  Then we are having a week of mission from 2-9 August.

I noted your considerations about Dodoma 18 months or so ago.
kind regards
Gill.
