Sure, it’s a great name for a young & talented Discworld witch (that’s Tiffany Aching from the novels The Wee Free Men, A Hatful Of Sky and Wintersmith).
But as a name for me, it sucks..sounds way too “Honky” or overseas-born Chinese...! (I was born here, and my father was born here, and if I were to have kids, they would be born here too..)
I like Esmerelda, as a name (after Esme Weatherwax - greatest witch on the Discworld). It’s a better name than my full name (which also sucks).
Tia suits me just fine, so let’s move on now…
Congratulations on the bub Pansy - since I haven’t yet said it!
It is always a pleasure to discover that our internet friends are real people and not just figments of our computer’s imagination.
Today I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff Atack at the Plan to Plant conference at Rouse Hill Anglican Church. Did you know that Jeff has a beautiful new baby daughter called Georgia? I’m sure I should have known, but now I’ve seen the pictures to prove it.
I am over the moon that you’ve introduced yourself. If ever you are visiting Wagga again or decide that you must move to Wagga for some inexplicable reason, then PLEASE let me know.
BTW, did you ever get round to cooking udon noodles? We still love them in the Crittle household. Maybe a bowl or 2 might be enough to tempt you to come on down!
with happiness and fond memories of fellowship and food
Angela
PS Congratulations on becoming a mum and on on your beautiful daughter.
I’ve been a lurker for a couple of months now, so not too long I suppose :) and after reading lots of posts I thought it was about time I made my first post.
After reading some of the threads on here and the many many posts in reply, I’m not sure how much I will be able to contribute to but I’m eager to give my thoughts sometimes, (although some of these threads are pretty heavy going!).
I’m sure you’ll be able to contribute (if you wish of course) - I’m sure we’re all keen to hear your thinking on things, and your experience of things - no matter what it is!
I’m David. I’m a 3rd year full time student at the University of Sydney and I’m involved with the Evangelical Union there. In spite of this I’m beginning to develop some moderate Pentecostal / Charismatic views (I expect some criticism to flow my way as a result… I say bring it on...).
I’m an ex MK & TCK, and if you don’t know what either of those acronyms mean you don’t need to worry about them :)
Hi, I’m Ros.
Where the sign up asked for my full name I took it too literally - hence the embarrassing triple-barrelled handle.
I’m married with 2 teenagers, living in western Sydney.
I’ve been watching this forum for a little while, and enjoying the engagement and debate on all sorts of issues.
I don’t have any special position or expertise, but I hope these discussions aren’t just for experts and people in ministry.
Welcome David and Ros. - david, where was your “2nd culture” and how long have you been back full time in Australia?
Ros, I am no expert, nor in ministry. Welcome to you both.
Gill.
I don’t have any special position or expertise, but I hope these discussions aren’t just for experts and people in ministry.
Welcome Roslyn,
I think that you should be able to go into your ‘profile’ and edit it so that you can lose your “triple-barrelled” handle - and, like most of us, learn to shoot from just two barrels.
Can I also point out that, in your small corner - wherever that is, that is where you find yourself - and you alone are indeed the ‘expert’ in being yourself. So we are all ‘experts’ at being ourselves - most, if not all, regarding ourselves as being ‘works in progress’. Certain folk are certainly more informed than others on certain topics - but that is the strength of these threads. We can all learn and be challenged by others at times - and be listened to when we have something to say.
Also, whilst a few members here are in ‘paid ministry’, the rest of us who are Christians are indeed all ministers - each in our own small corner.
