I’d like to thank the Anglican Media guys for todays new articles on an important ministry issue. 

They have highlighted such an important issue that has been neglected for so long.

I’m especially impressed by the following:

Here’s an idea: why don’t we start a youth ministry especially targeting the private schools? Too radical you say. But I am a dreamer.

Next they’ll be saying that we should have ministries especially dedicated to workers in the legal and finance industries, and to workers in the CBD. ;)

One thing I saw they missed, that I’m sure is essential, is the second holiday house! And don’t think that a time share property will be enough…

I thought Mira’s posting was an ironic dose of reality in the light of our ‘joke’.

I feel very sad that things have gotten this bad in the south-west.

Going up King Georges Rd - effectively there is no Anglican ministry between Beverly Hills and Homebush - an areas with hundreds of thousands of people.

Hey Jeremy, what about Greenacre Anglican church and Enfield Anglican?

St Thomas’ Enfield is the other side of Georges River Road, Cooks River and the Enfield railway yards from the strip Jeremy is talking about. I don’t know about Greenacre.
I recently heard about a minister in this region rejoicing that there was ONE Bible study in his church. It was a real achievement to have set it up, and it had been years since there had been one.

Its an April fools day story… the reverse is true!

Hi Robert, I’ll grant you Greenacre - though its really quite far north up in the vicinity of Sth Strathfield.. like Lakemba, Belmore and Campsie. I was thinking of the area bounded by the East Hills and Bankstown railway lines and centred on the Roselands shopping mall.

I travel along Georges River Rd past St Thomas Enfield to work every day.

As John said, St Thomas, Enfield has definite geographical “barriers” separating it from the “King Georges Rd/Roberts Rd” corridor.

The same applies to Padstow - in that case the geographical barriers are Salt Pan Creek and the Bankstown-ish Canterbury Rd industrial area.

Greenacre Anglican is definitely in the “zone” that Jeremy discussed as it is just off Roberts Rd, so it may be the exception to the Jeremy line but I don’t know anything about it other than its location.

I’ve now discovered that the one Anglican church I thought was operating in this area - St Mark’s, Clemton Park - is actually for sale for $1.2 million.

Anyone know what’s happened there?

I’ve done some further research thanks to the City of Canterbury website.

Here is the demographics of this city.

If we shear off the ‘inner-west’ quarter in the far east of this LGA (Ashbury, Canterbury, Croydon Park and Earlwood)…

By my calculations we have only a Dinka-speaking congregation at Burwood and St Andrew’s, Lakemba (mentioned above) covering an area with a population of 100,000… about one third (30,000) of which are English only speakers. The majority are Australian born and call themselves Christian (granted the % of Protestants is small).

Obviously Campsie, Greenacre, Riverwood and Beverly Hills-Kingsgrove churches sit just on the other side of the border north and south..

Does anyone else know of anything else happening in this region??
