I’m finding it hard to be motivated at uni, which is a problem as I’ve got four and a half years to go! I changed to a dual degree this year, so I’m now doing Mechatronic Eng and Linguistics. I’m loving the ling, no problems there, but I’m still struggling with the engineering. I’m worried that I’ll keep failing subjects and run out of HECS. I’m questioning whether I should really be doing engineering, or perhaps if I should change to another major without mechanics, like electrical eng. But I want to finish what I’ve started, and I know I can if I actually put the effort in…
I’d be grateful for any advice, and for prayer that God would help me feel motivated enough to do the work, and for guidance too.

Hi Dannii,

I will certainly pray for you, for God’s wisdom and peace, and for motivation in your studies.

As someone who changed my area of tertiary studies a few times (including Linguistics as well as Mathematics/Computer Science areas)
I can empathise a little with where you are at the moment.

You said: “But I want to finish what I’ve started”....

Perhaps it is wise to listen for how God may be guiding you towards or away from certain areas of study.
We are called to endure in our faith and hope in our Lord Jesus Christ (e.g. 1 Thess 1:3) not necessarily to endure in a particular series of lectures and tutorials.

The peace of the Lord be with you,

Terry

Dannii,

I too am praying.

I thought Terry’s advice excellent. The only thing I would add to it is not to get anxious about it but keep delighting (with lots and lots of thankfulness)and trusting in our Lord who knows the big picture.

cheers
Angela

Thanks both of you.

Although God could be directing me away from one area of study, I really doubt that he would do that through my slackness. The Bible says we should do everything as if for God, but it’s hard. It’s so easy not to do uni work, pushing me further and further behind.

I’m not anxious at all however, if I was, that might provide a source of motivation. Even the cost of having to repeat subjects doesn’t seem to motivate me anymore…

Pr Uni Motivation

Hi Danii, I also am praying.  Mostly that God would guide you and give wisdom - who to talk to, knowing where to go, how to get over the hump, etc. etc. It is a difficult time for you.
Gill.

I’ve passed one subject now :D (http://eldacar.com/archives/team-project-72-points!/0/)
Now for the others.. which will pretty much depend on the final exams. I’m confident I can pass maths, but mech is worrying.

Hi all,

I’d just like to thank you for your prayers again. I’ve decided I’ll drop engineering and just do my arts degree, which I am loving. This new year seems to be going much better. The end is in sight, and though I don’t know what to do after I graduate, that’s a problem for another day.

That’s not the problem; The real potential problem is you cannot do what you want to do after your graduation!
