Firstly, I would like to sincerely apologise for not answering Gordon’s questions about our culture reviews policy sooner. It was not an intended snub. I merely failed to pay attention to the forums over the past few weeks and so missed the worthwhile questions.
Secondly, thanks to Angela and Alan who responded in my absence.
Angela is indeed correct that as Christians
“We can do something our culture cannot - provide a critique of our culture, in this case a work of fiction or non-fiction, from a Christian perspective.
” This is one thing our reviewers aim to do in looking at contemporary cultural forms.
Alan also correctly pointed out that Mark and I send our reviewers “
a suggested list of questions to ask of a book, which is quite helpful for reaching a Christian perspective on a work”.
These guidelines help reviewers work in an apologetic paradigm when writing their reviews.
But Gordon, I would like to add to these answers from others and say that our reviews of films, music and books also serve in bringing traffic to our website that might not otherwise come to a Christian website. We hope that people might be challenged by a Christian worldview on society that they might not otherwise have thought about. We also hope they might check out other parts of our website and get a bigger taste of what Christians are doing and have to say.
We also hope our reviews will equip Christians with ways of thinking about popular culture that they otherwise might not have.
If you have any more questions Gordon, or if I have not answered these ones sufficiently, feel free to ask again.
