Recently Mike Bonem conducted the singularly most useful conference on taking unchanged churches forward, that has been conducted in Sydney since Hybels spoke at darling Harbour in 93. this model of 8 sequential steps will work in large or small churches and is already working in two anglican churches in Sydney.

Geoff do you think perhaps you could expand your comments out a bit more?  I assume you are trying to make a point, but there doesn’t seem to be much information to go with it.  Cheers.

I think Geoff’s post was suppose to be in reply to another thread, but he started a new thread by mistake. Given the forums were pretty new at the time (this thread started 10 Dec) I let it go, though I could probably delete it now if there are no objections…

I was pleased to have been able to attend the Bonam conference too. It was great to see so many there.
The key message that came from it to my mind was that we must become self-critical as churches. We can’t rest on our laurels (if there are any) and maintain forms of service or meeting, types of ‘outreach’ and evangelism if they are not producing the goods. I went to one church which had an outreach function which they thought successful because it was enjoyable. But there were no people there from outside the church. As entertainment is was great, as outreach is was a bomb. We’ve got to get honest with ourselves, I think, and really know what we want to achieve and work out the best way to achieve it.

Daffyd (looks Welsh?),

Hey, that’s nothing brother. I once went to a church’s evangelical service where BOTH the entertainment and the outreach were bombs!
